So with 6 days till the Long Beach Marathon, I woke up with a sore throat, headache, achey body, and fever (no congestion or runney nose). I don't know exactly where or how I got these flu-like symptoms but they're very frustrating. The best analogy I can give is that I feel like I ran a marathon in the heat and got a sore throat somewhere along the way. I just feel beat up and tired.
I've been sleeping constantly since Monday, taking lots of vitamins, and theraflu. I've slept so much that it hurts my back, and head, yet have had little improvement. I really don't know if it'll be gone by Sunday, but it's not looking great. For the last 8 weeks since AC was canceled, this race has been my focus. Speedwork, fartlek, intervals, etc etc was what I did. Though this speedwork will help me in other races, it's really disappointing to not know what it produced. I am an ultra marathoner at heart: I love the trails, I love long runs, and I have running on pavement. I sacrificed a lot of what I love to run well at Long Beach and it's tough to know Sunday won't be what I'm truly capable of.
Thanks to everyone for the support on FB. I know I shouldn't be so upset though, as I could have something else really bad with my body (i.e. David Goggin's heart problems at altitude http://davidgoggins.blogspot.com/ ) If anyone has any advice for my symptoms, please let me know as I just want to get healthy soon!
